September 8,
Slept good last night, not to cold, not to hot just right. Got up and headed out around 8 or so and headed into the next town called Brilliant. There we stopped by a grocery store and picked up some frosted flakes, hot dogs, chips, cheese dip and took a picture of some of the locals
standing outside and headed back on the road, gotta use the morning cool-air as much as we can. Fed a horse with her baby with some grass, I tried to feed them so musky-dimes but
they wouldnt take them. Stopped in an empty lot beside the road with a broken down shed beside us and cooked up the hotdogs and snacked on some chips and cheese dip. While we was eating dad ventured into the shed and found a stash of wrestling magazines. Being a fan myself I picked up three from the shed dating way back to 1987 to 88. im carrying
these now in my back bike box to see how much money they would be so and that i would like to learn the history of wrestling in the old days. Other than that though not much happened today. We found a church on top of a hill(Full of ants, got about 6 bites), there we took showers, worked on the blog, and went to sleep.

Horrible Morning, the dew soaked everything that wasn't covered up or water proof, we had to let everything dry out until around 9:30. Afterwards we went into the town of souljent were we grabbed some drinks before hitting the Mississippi state line. Finally reached mississippi and took pictures beside the sign. Had to go a little ways were we took a break beside a wide open field and drank our drinks, just before we was about to head out a man walked over and started talking to us about how he sat in a building next to us which had cameras all outside and used it to hunt deer that came out and roamed his yard. After talking to him and taking his picture we rolled on out and finally got to a town that had a Wendy's and uploaded the blog and some pictures. After Wendy's we found a pond and went swimming and I layed in a metal boat for a few minutes and tried to get a tan on my chest and stomach to get rid of this farmers tan(didnt work). AFter leaving we figured out that James left his Man-let(bracelet for men) at the pond but it was to late to go get it. After riding on a highway for a while we ran into a church(not literally) and used the hose on the side to fill up our water bottles and cool off our heads. Right after that we met some kids walking up a drive way. We told them about our website
and they said were talking on a website in class today called georgia boys. We asked what it was about and they said it was about some boys on bicycles. Wouldnt that be something if it was our website. We took a picture of them with Dad's bikes and went on our mary way. The sun started to go down and we decide to call it a day so we found a nice little spot beside a soy bean field, made some potted meat and cheese sandwiches, and called it a night.
September 10,
Got up and thankfully everything that wasn't waterproof was covered last night becuase it would have been soaked this morning. Went into houston and grabbed some eggs at the grocery store and ate them over at the lake. A lady came over and told us about the house across the lake, She said that the guy who built the hospital in houstan also built that house. he had florida sand shipped in so the nurses and him could walk down and enjoy the lake. Elvis actually liked the house so much that he asked the man if he could take a few ideas from the house, the man said "here, just take the blueprints to it". Cool little local story for ya. After that we rode along and found a gas station with a laundry mat next to it. Got into the air conditioning inside the Laundromat. Dad would like to say "Thanks for the herbal sweet tea". Even had the cutest little dog join us for some ice cream. Soon we had to say good bye to his dog and ride off into the sunset. Riding by cotton feilds along the way until we ran out of water. Boy was that a fun
time looking around for water. We eventually found some next to a daycare center. Nasty looking water too. But it tasted alright so we kept it. Soon we entered Calhoun city, were we picked up some shake in bake pancakes, sausage, syrup and a hockey pucked sized slab of butter. Calhoun was a pretty city, to bad we didn't have time to check out the shops. After calhoun we went into a gas station and rested in the A/C and met a really cool guy out in the pumping area. Then after a few miles down the road we set up camp beside another field, cooked some pancakes and headed off to bed.
September 11
10 years and we still remember this sad day. Everybody remembers were they was on 9/11. My dad was in Maine on the trail, He heard it on the headphones, I was in 4th grade in the library and James was 6th grade.
After getting up, riding a little ways and cooking some sausage, we ran into a church. But they didn't start until an hour so
we told them we might find a church down the road a little ways. But we sat and rested at a post office and just kept wondering if we should go or not, soon though a truck pulled up and a man named Joe pulled up and told us to get on back to the church, they had a place we could lock the bikes up and he would even by us some lunch afterwards. So we changed into our "church clothes" and went back and said hi and talked to just about everybody and enjoyed the service they had there. Met a boy named Bubba who sat with during the service. He liked how even though me and James were 20 and 21 years old we still acted young. After service Joe told us to stop by the gas station down the street and order what ever you want, I already told them to make me a tab. So after we took a picture of us with some of the people at the church we said
good-bye we got use some cheeseburgers. chips and 3 drinks and started eating some good lunch. Before we got done Joe stopped in and asked if we would like to have a hot shower. "Definitely" we said and he told us to meet him down at the fire station down the road. Turns out he was the chief down at the firestation. He opened the door and Dad got the first shower Joe brought out a big atlas for me and james to look at and plan our trip a little bit. after we all got
done with out shower we Thank Joe for all he did for us today and went on our marry way. Off to grenada we went. Very big town, big hills too. Stopped by a dollar generals and bought some more groceries and as we were heading out big ol' rain clouds starting building up and little sprinkles of rain started falling so we stopped under a shopping complex and relaxed. Downloaded what we had on our camera onto our computer. After a few minutes the clouds blew past and we went on our marry way to our next camping spot. BIG HILL after Grenada and it was flat and level the rest of the way. Stopped next to a field again but this time on a nice grassy road instead of a dirty road like the other 2 nights. Cooked us some baked beans and red hots before bed and then went to sleep in our tents.
September 12
Slept really good last night. Very comfertable but still stuffy in the tent. Packed everything up and went back out on the open road. The map said that Minter city was our next stop. We ran over their and right before we got there we wanted to go swimming in a big river we wen over there. While trying to find a way down to we we met a man who told us that Minter city hasn't existed for a while now. Jeez what a buzz kill. Oh well we still had 3 red hots to snack on so we just ate them cold because we didn't feel like bringing out the stove and wasting our precious water. Good thing we didn't because we ran out of water a few miles down the road. Thankfully we was able to get a lady in a truck to take us home, make us some lunch, give us some nice showers and massaged our backs. What!? Yeah that was a lie but the lady in the truck did take us to her house and fix us some ice cold drinks and filled our water bottles with some ice water. Even introduced us to her husband, her dogs and her pet hog. That's right, they have a pet hog in their back yard. Was as safe to pet as a dog and loved his watermelons. After thanking Mrs. Teresa and her husband Sam. We went on. freshly hydrated and ready to face the day. It was a while before we reached the next city of rule-ville but trust me, it wasn't something to look forward to. Went to the dollar general and got some cereal and mild. Sure enough milk was already opened. Went back and the last one was opened as well. Finally just had to grab some chocolate milk. Lucky charms and chocolate milk was actually quite good. But you know I'm always up to trying knew things. A few minutes later I went and started washing dishes. During this time Dad was able to talk to a lady who was kind enough to offer us a place to stay. I came back outside and James had this big smile on his face. "Guess what" he said.
"What" I said
"We just got a place to stay tonight"
"No way"
"Yeah, your dad just talked to her and told her we didn't have a place to stay tonight and she said we could stay at her place tonight"
WOW! What a lucky break. After picking up her groceries from Dollar General she told us to follow her to her house. She said that she would go as slow as she could go but we almost lost her if it wasn't for the help SUPER KEITH! FUELED UP ON CHOCOLATE MILK AND LUCKY CHARMS, HE SPEEDS AWAY AT 20 MPH. Yeah that only lasted maybe 5 minutes. but i was in the lead the entire time. When we got to the house the others were like "Wow, never seen you go that fast".
"Yeah, well I just wanted to show you boys what I could do"
After setting up tent in her back yard to introduced us to her room mate Debbie(Actually Rose was the room mate and Debbie was the owner of the house) They invited us on the back prch where they had a T.V and was screened in from the mosquitoes. They eat dinner inside as we watched the weather channel. Tomorrow was going to be our hottest day for the week at 95 degrees. Not the hottest by far being our hottest day was 105. Soon they came out and joined us and talked with us until around 11:00 or so. Then they went to bed and we went to our tents.
September 13
Woke up before 7:00 Mississippi time to follow Rose to her work. She was kind enough to let us take showers in her bathroom real quick. After that we followed her up to highway 69 were we she took us to a McDonald's so we could do our blog and upload some pictures and find the post office where a package was supposed to be waiting on us. While I worked on the blog Dad went and found the post office to find that the package hasn't arrived yet. So after coming back from the post office and uploading pictures to the blog. We decided to get a hotel down the street. Called the western hotel. No, not the best western, just called the western hotel. Only 60 bucks for a night. But it was cheap because we didn't have wi-fi or HBO. But the channels on TV were nice and clear so we relaxed, took some nice hot showers, watched a rocky 1 and 2, and just stayed lazy the rest of the day.
